GTI Update: So experiencing the 2015 Volkswagen GTI in day-to-day driving gives me a new appreciation for it that I didn’t quite take away from the launch event earlier this year. At the time, I had thought the GTI ‘good’ but not ‘great’ from a dynamics perspective as compared to the previous generation car – an opinion that I still hold to be true. However, the way the car comports itself in traffic, the wide torque band, the solid feel of its chassis, and the fun it offers when commuting are a nice balance to the fact that this just isn’t the hardcore GTI some enthusiasts are looking for.
Full review is coming next week, but I had the chance to spend six days behind the wheel of the GTI’s more staid cousin, the 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI when I was in Los Angeles for the auto show. Here’s my review for The Car Guide as a bit of prep for the upcoming GTI piece. Two cars automobiles with identical platforms, but very different attitudes.
