We are two weeks away from the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for Code 45 Issues #1-3 at www.code-45.com (July 7 at 8 am).
In Issue 1 of Code 45, we introduced the audience to Vanessa’s world with a tour of her work, her friends, and the rave scene that she stumbles into, each of which serve as a backdrop to the mystery of what’s happening in the tunnels below Montreal’s streets.
In Issue 2 and Issue 3, it’s time to delve deeper into the ideas surrounding perception of reality. Our challenge as the story continues is to create an environment where Vanessa, the people around her, and the reader are no longer sure that they are witnessing the same objective reality.
Simply being present at the time an event happens – the flash of a dragon across the page, a dark shadow blocking the light in a tunnel, or something even more fantastic – is no guarantee that each character will walk away with the same experience. The same goes for the reader, who more often sees the characters in the act of witnessing rather than viewing an event through their eyes.
The reasons for our own interpretations of the world around us are as infinite and varied as the individual experiences that serve to make up our respective consciousnesses. The idea that there can be any ‘objective’ reality to which we all subscribe is something that is continuously tested by the events of Code 45, and it’s at this point in the story arc that we begin to see how and why the characters on the page and the events that unfold around them may no longer be as reliable as they once seemed.
