I’ve never been a big fan of early Wranglers. I’ve always appreciated them, but never felt the need to actually own one, and compared to the current crop of JK and JL options, generations like the YJ do present as fairly primitive when driven on asphalt.
There’s one exception, though: the Renegade. This 90s-era weirdo most likely appeals to me because it’s so out of step with what one would expect from a Jeep, and given my contrarian approach to automotive purchases, the idea of a 4×4 with a mini-truck body kit is just odd enough to tickle my fancy. I also have absolutely no stance on the entire square headlight/round headlight debate, which has pushed prices on YJs down past where they probably should be.
