Code 45’s editor, Andrea Molinari, recently sent me these images he took of the Code 45 pressworks. What are pressworks? They’re the actual printing plates used in the CMYK process used to create the interior color pages of Code 45 issue #1.
Each color (Black, Cyan (Blue), Magenta, and Yellow) gets its own plate, and in combination they create the beautiful hues that flowed from the imagination of Code 45’s colorist, Josh Perez. The book is printed in 8 page increments using four plates for each page.
It’s very cool to get this glimpse into the creation of the book itself, and pull back the curtain on its printing. I believe Scout occasionally offers these plates as 1-of-1 collectibles, but I’m not sure if/when Code 45’s pressworks might become available for purchase.
