‘Vigil’ Launched the Cold War Submarine Thriller Into the 21st Century. I enjoyed Vigil when I watched it four years ago, but I didn’t make the connection at the time that writer Michael Baumann does here. He argues that the show offered a bridge between the outdated Cold War submarine setting and a truly modern approach to the concept. I recommend both the series and this feature for those who enjoy thrillers beneath the waves.
“Synthetic Comics” is Just a Pretentious Way of Saying “I Stole This”: Why Broken Frontier Will Continue to Operate a Zero Tolerance Policy Towards Generative AI “Art.” Broken Frontier is somehow getting heat for its non-engagement policy with machine-generated comics. This eloquent explainer makes it very clear why the indie comics world has no place for this exploitative technology.
Inside the rising country-wide movement against AI data centres. Hamilton recently declared a moratorium on data center construction, and it’s inspiring other municipalities in Canada to do the same. It’s encouraging to see communities actively interrogating data center plans and putting the needs of citizens ahead of corporations.
